This week click below to hear about Haden's real life chance to use Spanish, his opportunity to sing for more big wigs and his up close and personal experiences with some Apostles.
No new pictures yet this week. Hopefully I can get a few more up this weekend. If you haven't sent him any love, be sure to do so, he'll need it over the next week as he prepares to take on the next hurdle.....leaving the MTC.
Happy B-day to my brother Tobin. Well yesterday anyways. Big 27. What an old man. Glad to hear you had fun.
As for me, I got my travel plans this weekend. I leave a week from this Monday and I am so freaking nervous.
Last Saturday my companion had a unicorn horn on his head and the doctor thought that it could be a staph infection, so we went to Rite Aid to get to get a prescription. While we were waiting for it, these three Mexicanos sat down next to us. They saw our badges and asked us where we were going. So I'm thinking "sweet I can have a real conversation with them in Spanish." I said "la ciudad de Mexico sur (Mexico City South)." I mean, when you hear someone say that you think "Wow! They know Spanish!" And of course, that is what they thought. Boy were we all (myself, my companion and the guys) wrong. Everything they said after that just sounded like trash. Like one mixed up pile of mexi talk. My companion and I said probably said "como" twenty five times. The one thing I did get out of it was they said the people in Mexico City spoke really bad Spanish, and I thought to my self, 'Wow, I thought you spoke bad Spanish.' Not cool. But they also said that we will learn fast so that is good. Pero necesito aprender mas espanol en me ultimo semana (But I need to learn more Spanish in my last week). I am super excited for Mexico but kinda of nervous also.
So the MTC is back to normal, mission presidents gone and no more Apostles. Let me tell you what an experience that was though. Every morning we sang for them and we would turn around and an Apostle would wink at us and say "thank you" or "that sounded nice." I gave President Monson a chest bump. jk. But what an experience that was. I have a few good stories for you.
On Sunday we were standing at the door, a couple of other elders and myself. We all see Apostle L. Tom Perry walks by, he smiles and waves at us. Elder Blodgett (the read head) gives him like a 'Whats up' head nod. It was probably the funniest thing I have ever seen.
Later I saw our director, Brother Brenchely, walking around talking to all the Apostles and when he came in I jokingly asked "Why didn't you bring Elder Holland with you?" He replies, "Want me to go get one of them?"..."Um yes" was my response. So he leaves and comes back in with Elder Bednar. Elder Bednar walks in and everyone is just standing there quietly, so me, being the sociable peron I am, say "Hey! hows it going?" Everyone laughed and i felt like an idiot. But he was cool and said "Fine thank you and you."
All the experiences I had were amazing. After our last day we didn't get to sing in sacrament meeting cause they just kinda skipped over us. So after it ended we all went in a room and just started singing. As we were singing, all the mission president walked in. We told them to stand in the middle of our circle and while we sang they stood there. That was probably one of the most spiritual experiences of my life. Everyone singing was crying, all the mission presidents were crying and all of their wives were crying. It was an awesome feeling.
But the week went on as usual, fast and nothing else really exciting. I am very excited/nervous to finally leave for Mexico City in a week and a half. My teacher, who is from Mexico, said they talk so fast that the first few days he got there even he didn't understand anything. If he didn't understand it, what the crap am I gonna do? But whatever, I guess I'll figure it out.
Love you all and miss you guys. Have fun in California and everywhere else while I am living it up over here.
Love,
Elder Jaramillo
