The Lighter Side of the Mission Field

Seems like good things are happening there in Mexico City.  This week's letter is a fun look into the day to day life of his time in Mexico City.

Again, he sent a few more pics.  He's been on a good roll lately.  You can check them out on the Picture page.

Below is this week's letter...

Dear America and all the people I love there,

This week was a little rough but from a rough week always comes good things. The thing is, school started here, so it’s really hard to find people at home here.  People here go to school morning, day and night...seriously it’s weird.  Haha.  But we have some great people we are teaching and the people here are really amazing.  Even if they don’t want to here our message they ask us if we want water and every single one of our investigators or members asked if we ate.  I swear the people here have stomachs that are humungous!  I really don’t know how they eat so much.  My companion is the size of a chihuahua but eats like a pitbull.  I swear every time I finish eating, I feel like I never want to eat again. I have never been so close to throwing up after a meal after I eat.  Well that is every day, it’s a little ridiculous.  But good news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  In a few weeks I am going to need to buy new belts because i am on the last hole.  It’s cool and everything but that means I am going to have to buy new pants to because those are struggling as well.

But anyways on to the important stuff, Go Boise State!  Haha.  I heard about the game last week.

I saw a rat in the street again this week but this time it was way closer. I think my companion and I almost killed ourselves trying to get away from it.

We don’t have water in our house.  Seriously none at all. So we have no way to shower.   So every morning we have to go to a member’s house to shower.  It’s the little things you miss when you live in Mexico City.

Ok, this is the serious stuff.

This week I realized that I don’t need to focus with every bit of energy I have to understand the language and what is going on in a conversation.  I pretty much understand it all and I’m super stoked about it. It helps me keep my mind on the lesson and feel the spirit more and actually understand the person’s problems and where they want help.  And I am starting to understand more and more about the language and how it works and weird things that it has.  I decided that in a few months I am going to tell everyone that I am from Chihuahua, MX.  My goal is to have people believe me.

I never thought I would say this, but I am kind of sick of Mexican food.  So we ate at McDonald’s a few times this week.  The McDonald’s here is soooooo clean.  It’s seriously like that nicest place in Mexico City.

Sorry about the just rambling stuff I just had some stuff that I wanted to tell you guys.

But I am starting to feel more and more comfortable in this city and with the language.  I can’t believe I have been in the field for two months.  It’s pretty crazy how fast time is passing.  I love the people, the culture and the city.  This week is the independence week for Mexico.  So everything is decked out in Mexico stuff and Mexican flags are everywhere.  It’s pretty sweet but I am worried because we are not going to get any sleep at all this week. They party hard here and for everything.  "My kid lost his first tooth, party till 4 in the morning!!!!!!"  haha.  Seriously it’s a little ridiculous. But I like it.

Anyways, still having fun. I am tired like all the time from walking and talking and thinking.  I just want to sit on my couch in my PJs with a diet coke and sunflower seeds and watch college football.  Haha....soon enough.

Much love,

Elder Hoots
