Experiences of a Missionary in Mexico City

Only Elder Hoots could tell a story like the ones below.  Just imagine him telling them with a "dude" between every word and you will laugh.  Finally, we get some stories about the actuality of living in Mexico City.  Experiences like this will help you grow up fast.  haha.

If you haven't already, please try to send out your handwritten note to Hoots.  To get to Mexico in time for Christmas, they should probably be sent next week at the very latest.

Thank you for all your support.

This week was pretty good. It was Thanksgiving in America, but not here.  The good thing was I didn't think about it too much. I had a baptism on that day, Jose Luis.   I've been telling you about him for a little bit now, and let me tell you that his baptism was an amazing experience.  It was very spiritual and everyone was feeling the spirit.  There were like fifty people there. That may not be a big deal there, but here that iss more people then come to sacrament meeting. haha.  It was amazing and I will never forget it.  He is such an awesome person and he is so happy that is baptized now.  I know he is going to be a great leader in the church and I can't wait to see it.  Their plan is to go to the temple in January of 2013 and I can't wait to go with them.
This week we had a few weird experiences.  First of all, one day we were leaving lunch and this guy started talking to us.  He was super drunk and a Jehova's Witness.  He showed us all three of the scriptures that say "Jehova" in the Bible.  But he showed each one like ten times.  Because he was drunk, I was messing with him making him say it like ten times.  He was so frustrated. haha.  It was hilarious.  Everyone was watching us and everytime I asked him to repeat they all started laughing and he was freaking out.  It was fun for a while, but then I started to get frustrated.  He took my scriptures and when I tried to grab them back from him, he slapped my hand away. At that point I was done.  I said to him "You can believe whatever you want.  But you have taken too much time from us teaching people the truth, so we need to go.  Thank you."  That shut him up real quick, and we left.
The very next day we taught this old guy.  For some reason he got mad very quickly.  I dont even know how or why he got mad, we never got a chance to say anything to him.  He just talked the whole time.  We couldn't help but laugh because he was seriously freaking out and we hadn't said anything to him.  All he heard was that my name is Elder Jaramillo.   In his rage, he took of his glove and like slammed it on the floor.  I was shocked because seriously, we didn't even do or say anything.  Have I said that enough times yet?   I simply told hime that he thinks he knows about our church, but from what he has told us he doesn't know and that when he wanted to sit down and have a discussion we will be there to talk.  Until then, adios fool.
Later that day we had another borracho (drunk) come up to us.  He started talking to us about satan.  He asked me if I knew him he was like do you know him.  I replied, "no, I don't drink because that invites him into our lives and if we dont do it then it helps prevent him from coming into our lives."  Of course, he wouldnt drop the subject.  So I told him we had to go.  As I was leaving he offered me a bottle of alcohol.  He made me take it, so I took it and we left quickly.  He then decided he wanted it back, so he started chasing us.  He was so drunk he could barely walk though, so we had no problem getting away.  haha.  What am I going to do with these people?
I don't want you to think all I did this week was fend of crazy people.  I also met and taught some great people this week.  The problem is I don't know them well enough yet to tell you about them.  Hopefully in the coming weeks I'll get to know them better and I can give you some uplifting stories.  At least stories like the ones above keep things interesting.
My companion and I are getting along alright.  We only have 4 weeks left, and we are making it work.
I miss golf a little bit and I heard basketball season is back on.  2012 World Champion Lakers has a nice ring to it.  haha.
I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, I wish I could have been there.  Have a good week this week, and I love you and miss you all.
